Product Review: Schäedz Polarized Children's and Adults Sunglasses

Schäedz is a family sun protection company selling high-quality polarized sunglasses for children and matching designs for their parents too!

A new brand launched right here in Singapore by an Irish and Austrian husband and wife team, David and Mirjana Power; Schäedz is available globally via their website. They are set to educate parents on the importance of protecting children's eyesight. While parents protect their children's skin from the sun's harmful rays, they often overlook the need for equal attention to their eyes too.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says children are at especially high risk of damage from UV radiation, recommends children wear sunglasses and states that over exposure to the sun can cause or accelerate:
  • inflammations of the cornea
  • conjunctiva in the eye
  • cataract development
  • corneal sunburn (photokeratitis)
  • cancer development

The nice folks at Schäedz recently gave me the privilege of reviewing a pair of Schäedz's sunglasses, and I must say I am very, very impressed.

What I love about their sunglasses:

  • Polarized, shatterproof, polycarbonate, UV400, scratch resistant lenses
  • Handmade acetate frames
  • Satisfies European standard EN 1836:2005 and CE directive 89/686/EEG
  • Absolutely affordable!
  • Wide temples to block peripheral sun intrusion
  • Durable dual direction hinges
  • Matching adult designs to allow parents lead by example
  • Hand-made acetate frames which allow for prescription lens replacement
  • Sits comfortably on my nose bridge without any discomfort
  • Does not cause any headache, 'wavy outlook', after a few hours.
True to their word, my sunglasses haven't gotten scratched, and I'm well-known for ruining many pairs within days of purchasing one. Their shades are priced from $23.10 for babies, to $39.10 for adults in USD. Now, that's value for money!

If you took a look at their collection, you'd notice the children's designs, match those of the adults'. Most parents, and early childhood professionals are well-aware of how children pick up life-long skills at their tender age by imitating the influential adults around them. Thus, tt pleases me to note that the folks at Schäedz have taken this into consideration, and have created adult sunglasses in the same shapes and colours as the children's versions.

By wearing Schäedz themselves, parents can leverage younger children's natural tendency to emulate their parents. By modeling the habit as an adult, you are encouraging your children to imitate you.
