Kids love to hear the sounds of their own voices, so tape-record your child's speech and play it back. See how many different was she can make herself sound.
Materials:
- Cassette recorder
- Microphone
- Blank tape
- Cognitive/thinking skills
- Creativity and imagination
- Language and vocabulary development
- Listening skills
What to Do:
- Place a blank tape in the cassette recorder.
- Choose an interesting topic for your child to talk about such as, "What did you do at preschool?" "What do you want for your birthday?" or "What happened on your favourite TV show?"
- Turn on the tape, hold the microphone close to her mouth, and let her talk about the subject.
- Play the tape back and listen to her voice together.
- Pick another topic and have her speak again, but this time have her use a different voice such as very low, very high, a cartoon character, and so on.
- Have your child change voices for each topic, then listen to the entire tape from the beginning.
Variation:
Tape record family members and friends are see if your child can guess who's talking!
Caution!
If the cassette player plugs into an outlet, tell your child not to touch the cord. Also, make sure she's careful with the recorder buttons.
