Rhyming Rhythm

Help your child keep the beat and learn more language at the same time! This game takes some coordination, but it makes talking lots of fun!

Materials:
Music (optional)

Learning Skills:
  • Coordination and rhythm
  • Emotional expression
  • Language and vocabulary development
  • Listening skills
  • Social interaction
What to Do:
  1. Think of a word that is easy to rhyme with such as goat.

  2. Begin clapping your claps slowly, encouraging your child to maintain your rhythm.

  3. Say the word while you clap your hands.

  4. Have your child say a rhyming word while you continue to clap.

  5. Maintain the clapping rhythm while he thinks of more rhyming words. You could also take turns coming up with rhyming words until you run out.

  6. Choose a new word and play again.
Variation:
Play music and say the rhyming words to the beat of the music.

Caution:
Watch out for bad words!
